After all, the same pattern of violence among antidepressant takers has been observed, documented and published in numerous previous cases.
How to stop the violence
Following this recent episode of violence, some Americans are renewing calls for gun control. But I ask, isn't it time we looked at antidepressants control? Why do we continue to drug up young people in this country with psychotropic drugs that we know are closely associated with violent outbursts? |

Mosholder, and now it has been revealed that his bosses at the FDA kept his recommendations about antidepressant drugs secret and delayed action on antidepressants by initiating a new analysis. This is in contrast to the action taken by British medical authorities, who banned the use of all antidepressants (except for Prozac) in children. In the United States, however, the reaction has been "deny and delay" in order to allow doctors to continue prescribing antidepressants to children in record numbers, thereby generating massive revenues for Big Pharma. |

John's Wort, a medicinal herb frequently blamed by conventional medicine for interfering with prescription drugs, is more effective than a popular antidepressant drug in treating depression. The study found that the herb is actually much more effective than antidepressant drugs, since more than half of those taking St. John's Wort in the trial experienced improvements in symptoms of mental depression. Conversely, only 1/3 of those taking the popular antidepressant drug showed such improvements. |

And unless we restrict the use of antidepressant drugs and find a way to help young men achieve genuine mental health through nutrition, sunlight, and avoidance of toxic chemicals, mark my words: We will see more antidepressant-induced violence in America.
The shootings will not stop until the pills are banned.
You can bank on it. The next attempted shooting is likely only days or weeks away.
If we want to end this violence, we must end the chemical warfare being waged against the minds of our young men and children by the drug companies. |

So-called "early intervention," where you use antidepressant drugs in perfectly healthy people in order to "prevent" depression from appearing.) This was a major breakthrough for Big Pharma: Now they could sell drugs to healthy people and were no longer limited to merely selling drugs to the sick.
When that market was saturated, they went after the children. Multi-million dollar marketing and propaganda campaigns convinced children that virtually any experience of sadness -- say, losing a pet or having a friend move away -- was a disease that could be treated with pharmaceuticals. |

The association of antidepressant treatment with aggression and violence reported here calls for more clinical trial and epidemiological data to be made available and for good clinical descriptions of the adverse outcomes of treatment. Legal systems are likely to continue to be faced with cases of violence associated with the use of psychotropic drugs, and it may fall to the courts to demand access to currently unavailable data. The problem is international and calls for an international response. |
| In fact, he got put on antidepressant drugs in America, following the same fraudulent system of medicine that is uniquely American in the degree of harm it causes people. If anybody should be picking up the phone and apologizing, it's the U.S. diplomats who should be apologizing to the world for exporting death, disease and western medicine. Drug companies should be apologizing to the families of those who died, as well as to the family of the shooter. And the doctor or psychiatrist who prescribed these drugs to Cho Seung should be apologizing to everybody. |
| What is it about antidepressant drugs that provokes young men to pick up pistols, rifles and shotguns, then violently assault their classmates? Clearly, there's something wrong with the mind of anyone who engages in such violent acts. Could the drugs be "imbalancing" their minds, priming them for violence?
The answer is a very sobering, "Yes, they could be. |

So Big Pharma lobbied the FDA for the approval of antidepressant drugs for dogs, and in February, 2007, the FDA approved Prozac for dogs. Because, apparently, dogs have "chemical imbalances in their brain" requiring treatment with patented synthetic chemicals, just like children and adults, right? (See the book Selling Sickness: How the World's Biggest Pharmaceutical Companies Are Turning Us All Into Patients.)
Prozac liquid drops for your pet fish are, apparently, just around the corner. And don't be surprised to see Ritalin for "hyperactive" dogs, too. |

Giving young men antidepressant drugs is, in my opinion, just like building silent timebombs and waiting around for one to suddenly go off. Chemically assaulting these young, troubled brains with powerful drugs -- while denying them real mental health solutions based on nutrition -- is the bread and butter of modern psychiatry, an industry that in my opinion has sold its soul to drug companies and now serves primarily as a glorified system of legalized drug dealers that preys upon children and teenagers. |

Back then, the idea that antidepressant drugs could cause suicides was considered ludicrous. It was fringe information, almost conspiracy theory stuff. Today, we're learning it's 100% true. And if you don't believe me, just ask the parents of all the children killed at the Colombine high school massacre in Colorado: their killers were on antidepressant drugs. Getting the picture yet? |

The FDA has been accused of delaying this obvious decision on announcing the dangers of antidepressant drugs. In its defense, the FDA says it wasn’t an intentional delay. The agency was just too busy rubber-stamping the approval of other drugs by pharmaceutical companies. The agency also explained it is trying to move more quickly on the approval of drugs so that children who show suicidal tendencies can be put on a third drug: anti-suicide drugs that alter their brain chemistry and counteract the negative side effects of antidepressant drugs. |

Saint John's wort is the most thoroughly researched natural antidepressant. The majority of these studies have not been conducted on menopausal women, but in 37 of 39 clinical trials, Saint John's wort was shown to be superior to the placebo or equal to the conventional prescription antidepressant medications. In general, studies have shown improvement in individuals with mild to moderate depression.128 In a recent review of studies, a total of 37 trials, including 26 comparisons with placebo and 14 comparisons with synthetic standard antidepressants, were evaluated. |

This was more than double the next-highest rate for patients using another antidepressant. In addition, the paper noted that 1.6 percent of patients reported incidents of hostility, more than double the number that patients on any of four other commonly used antidepressants reported. Finally, the trials reviewed in the document said that 0.8 percent of users of Prozac reported causing an intentional injury—eight times the rate associated with any of the other antidepressants. |

You can take an antidepressant to control your anger, unkindness, selfishness or whatever the problems are.
But that will never solve the problems. There is a better road to take. Few are ever willing to commit to taking and staying on that less travelled road, but that is the road that leads to joy. I hope you will choose that path.

They also have to get everybody to pretend that antidepressant drugs are a treatment for osteoporosis -- an idea that's utter nonsense and, in fact, may be the exact opposite of what's really true. Notice, for example, that the women in the study showing the lowest bone density were already on antidepressant drugs. So why didn't the mainstream media report, "Antidepressant Drugs Cause Osteoporosis?"
The answer, of course, is because that would hurt drug sales. |

Lilly claims it is a superior antidepressant, but Kaiser now has a group of pharmacists who are critically reading the drug studies. In the case of Cymbalta, they found its claim of superiority was based on administering higher doses to study subjects than what is recommended on the label, one of the tricks discussed in the "Tricks of the Trade" chapter.7) A similar board might also be established by an association of state Medicaid programs, since they also pay for prescription drugs. |

The answer, of course, is because that would hurt drug sales. So instead, they report, "Depression Causes Osteoporosis" and somewhere in the story they repeat the quote from the researchers claiming that taking antidepressant drugs might actually reverse osteoporosis!

So at first the kid is hyper and you put him on Ritalin. Then, he feels down all the time and gets depressed, so you put him on antidepressants. When he attempts to commit suicide, you put him on anti-suicide drugs and end up writing three checks to your local pharmacy instead of one. |

Now the truth is finally starting to come out on antidepressant drugs like Prozac. And what is the truth? That drug makers like Eli Lilly not only knew their star drugs were more dangerous than alternatives, but that they actively sought to suppress the release of that information in order to protect profits. What we are witnessing today is the beginning of the end of an era: the days of the Big Pharma con in which direct-to-consumer advertising pushed a drug industry to unprecedented levels of corporate greed. Of course, Eli Lilly denies everything. It's the same story talking to Merck. |

Rosemary's doctor referred her to a psychologist and also prescribed an antidepressant. After two months, Rosemary had joined a women's exercise group that she was attending regularly and reported that her mood was "100 percent better." Her doctor gradually took her off the antidepressant, and she says her exercise group "is my new drug. I've lost some weight, and I'm feeling much better. I'm glad to be off the antidepressant, and now my goal is to reduce my oral diabetic medication as well! |

If both an antidepressant and a tranquilizer are given to study subjects, we cannot know.
BOX #7-1
What is a Tranquilizer?
Most of the drugs we sometimes call tranquilizers are more precisely known as benzodiazepines. Prior to the development of benzodiazepines in the 1950s the drugs most commonly used to aid sleep and sedate were the barbiturates. Barbiturates were first created in 1903. They very quickly became popular as a sleeping aid, a relaxant and an anesthesia for surgery. |

Did she need someone to write her a prescription for an antidepressant? Did she need someone to listen to how sad she felt? No, she needed someone who would emphasize values (the best of all motivators). I tell my students that what I said to her, I said with kindness but with firmness and conviction. I always suspect someone might perceive what I say as uncaring or harsh, but depressed people need someone willing to be more firm and directive than do those who are not depressed. |
