Antidepressant drugs
Children as young as six months old are now being put on psychotropic drugs such as SSRIs (antidepressants). These drugs, we now know, cause suicidal thoughts and violent behavior, especially in young boys. They imbalance brain chemistry and even alter the body's metabolism of sugar, promoting diabetes and leading to rapid weight gain. These drugs are so dangerous that feeding them to children should be considered a crime. Every single school shooting involving a child in the United States in the last 15 years has been linked to antidepressant drug use. Need I say more? |

Conversely, only 1/3 of those taking the popular antidepressant drug showed such improvements. Not surprisingly, those taking the herb also showed significantly fewer negative side effects compared to those taking the prescription drug.
This is a case in which the herb is not only more effective, but also safer; a fact that should not be surprising, since medicinal herbs are typically more effective and significantly safer than prescription drugs. Also, St. |

The asterisk takes the reader to the bottom of the page where we read in fine print similar to that found on a drug insert sheet, "*Postulated site of tricyclic antidepressant activity." I have great reading vision. I could read the fine print, though I'll admit that I almost missed the word "postulated" as it was printed in white against a white background! |

REPPED: The FDA has now finally admitted that children who use antidepressant drugs are 180 percent more likely to have suicidal tendencies than children taking placebos. This is after the agency stalled for months by requesting an independent investigation of the research data, during which antidepressant drugs continued to be prescribed in huge numbers to children around the country and around the world -- all at great profit to pharmaceutical companies. |

John's Wort is a wonderful mood booster that works better than antidepressant drugs. So there are other benefits provided by these ingredients, beyond their anti-viral effects.
One note of caution, however: Because it contains St. John's Wort, be aware that this herb can potentiate many synthetic chemicals (prescription drugs), making them even more dangerous than they are normally. You should check with your naturopathic physician before taking prescription drugs with St. John's Wort. The good news is that if you take St. John's Wort, you can probably eliminate antidepressant drugs entirely. |

He was taking the antidepressant Prozac.
Once again we see the link between antidepressants and violent behavior. I was raising the alarm about this in 1999 following the Columbine schools shootings. At that time we knew that those students were on antidepressant drugs, but the rest of the world didn't take any notice of it. The rest of the world said, "These drugs are completely safe. They keep these kids happy and in a normal state so they don't feel depressed. |

Prozac Scandal Revealed; Antidepressants
The most favored antidepressant drug to make people "happy" is Prozac (fluoxetine). In the U.S., it is now used by millions of people to cope with stressful living conditions. This may lead people to believe that the drug is safe. The first studies on Prozac, however, show that the drug is not harmless after all. Researchers from the University of California made the discovery that women who take Prozac while pregnant are more than twice as likely to give birth to babies with defects. |

It saddens me to realize that many women (and men) who tell their physicians that they suffer from moodiness and mild depression leave their doctor's office with a prescription for an antidepressant while their underlying condition of estrogen dominance remains unrecognized and untreated. Unlike antidepressant drugs or manufactured synthetic hormones, bio-identical hormone therapies cannot be patented. Therefore, there are no company sales representatives going into physicians' offices to educate them about the causes and dangers of estrogen dominance. |

John's wort is widely prescribed for depression—by some estimates accounting for as much as 50% of the antidepressant market. In 23 separate clinical trials involving 1,757 patients who reported mild to moderately severe depression, taking 500 to 900 mg daily of St. John's wort extract (containing up to 2.7% hypericin, the active component of the herb) was three times more effective than a placebo and as effective as standard antidepressants such as Prozac and Zoloft. The researchers noted that it generally takes two to four weeks of steady use before the mood-elevating benefits of St. |

In April of this year, I also reported on the link between antidepressant drugs and the Virginia Tech shooting. See http://www.newstarget.com/021798.html
What I said in that article has urgent application right now, following the Omaha shooting:

He credits this to the same action behind the herb's antidepressant properties—maintaining serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that influences mood and helps produce sleep.
Caution: St. John's wort can have negative interactions with some pharmaceutical drugs, and it may increase the side effects of antidepressant medications. If you're taking pharmaceutical drugs, it's best to consult with your doctor before taking St. John's wort. |

In 2006, we reported the results of a study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry showing that teens taking antidepressant drugs are more likely to commit suicide (and to be "successful" at completing the act). See http://www.newstarget.com/020643.html
On September 11, 2006, I reported on the link between antidepressant drugs and violent behavior yet again. (See http://www.newstarget.com/020394.html ) In that article, I explained, "If you're going to alter the brain chemistry of these children, you had better be prepared for the results. The result we're seeing now is mass killings. |
| Both Harris and Klebold were taking antidepressant drugs.)
It's a little known fact that antidepressant drugs have never been tested on children nor approved by the FDA for use on children. It is well established in the scientific literature, however, that such drugs cause young men to think violent thoughts and commit violent acts. This is precisely why the U.K. has outright banned the prescribing of such drugs to children. |

John's wort has other interesting properties besides being an antidepressant. Regarding its antidepressant activity, however, scientists are still not completely certain which molecule is responsible. For many years it was thought that the antidepressant activity of St. John's wort was due to a molecule called hypericin, though now other molecules are under consideration (see Figure 1.1). My point is that even after identifying hypericin (or anything else) as an active ingredient, scientists will have many more questions, such as how to analyze a plant or a pill for its hypericin content. |

So why didn't the mainstream media report, "Antidepressant Drugs Cause Osteoporosis?"
The answer, of course, is because that would hurt drug sales. So instead, they report, "Depression Causes Osteoporosis" and somewhere in the story they repeat the quote from the researchers claiming that taking antidepressant drugs might actually reverse osteoporosis!
Why are there so many idiots in medicine and the media today? |

Those in the exercise only group were to get 30 minutes of exercise three times each week.48 After 16 weeks when depression levels were again assessed, it was found that the exercisers had improved as much as the other two
49 groups.
But this is not the end of the story. At ten months (six months after the first study was concluded), depression was assessed once again. The researchers were surprised to find that the group who was asked to exercise had made more improvement than either of the other groups. |

Some people find that taking an antidepressant during the first few months of therapy is just the extra lift they need to get them back on track, and then they stop the medication. This was the strategy Rosemary used to help beat her clinical depression.

Apparently, this took so long because the FDA wasn’t sure if the children were committing suicide from taking prescription drugs or from having to talk to FDA investigators. Apparently, children who are treated as guinea pigs by U.S. drug companies and drug regulators tend to think far more violent thoughts. |

I'm glad to be off the antidepressant, and now my goal is to reduce my oral diabetic medication as well!"
Some diabetic patients who are treated for depression later find they can not only stop the antidepressant but also reduce or eliminate any oral diabetic medication they are taking. Like Rosemary, however, you must work with your doctor when adding and/or eliminating any type of medications for depression, diabetes, or any other conditions you are treating.

| Force diabetics to use a labile insulin, almost certain to trigger hypoglycemic events, then sell the hell out of your best-selling antidepressant, Prozac! If the insulin doesn't kill 'em, maybe the Prozac will. Let's stuff as many prescription drugs into these poor bastards as their resources will allow.
Scientists have been examining the link between diabetes and depression and, evidently, like the old "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" have not solved the dilemma. But, in order to sell antidepressants to diabetic patients, either answer will serve corporate purposes. |

It's much easier to keep all of this quiet than to go public with the information and cause a massive drop in sales for antidepressant drugs.
Keep in mind the contrast here between how conventional medicines are treated and how nutritional supplements or herbal medicines would be treated. Imagine, for a moment, that the FDA found out that some nutritional supplement or herb caused children to have a 180% increase in suicidal tendencies. Do you think that would be front-page news? You bet it would be! |

With the popularity of antidepressant drugs continuing to climb, and with Prozac now the only antidepressant still being widely prescribed to children in the United States, this finding is of special significance.
Elsewhere around the world, the use of antidepressant drugs in children has been banned. This is largely because overwhelming evidence has surfaced in the last several years pointing to an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and violent behavior in children given SSRI drugs -- a class of drugs to which Prozac and other antidepressants belongs. |

This antidepressant is less expensive than some of the popular sleep drugs, and it's actually one of the most popular drugs prescribed for sleep, because it's effective and nonaddictive. It works even if you're depressed, as the doses are much lower than for treating depression. One side effect: priapism (which is maintaining erections for a lot longer than you want). Amitriptyline, an older antidepressant, may also be effective, but has caused constipation in our patients.

It's nothing short of astonishing. Did these people actually make it through medical school? Did they fail logic class? How on earth did they leap to this ridiculous conclusion? And just as importantly, how did all the journalists working for U.S. News and World Report (and other mainstream media sources) take this quote seriously and not even question the basic logic assumption behind all this? |
